Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve is compressed as it passes through the wrist, causing numbness, tingling, weakness, and pain in the hand and fingers. Repetitive motion, desk work, and certain medical conditions can all contribute. Because nerve irritation can also occur higher up, at the neck, shoulder, or elbow, a thorough evaluation of the entire arm and spine is an important first step.

At Onkels Chiropractic, conservative care may include adjustments of the wrist, elbow, and spine, soft tissue work, and guidance on ergonomics and activity modification. A small randomized trial (Davis et al., 1998, Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics) found that chiropractic care produced improvements comparable to a course of anti-inflammatory medication, though the evidence base remains modest.

Our goal is to help you try effective, non-surgical options first. If your symptoms suggest a more advanced problem, we will tell you honestly and coordinate a referral to the appropriate specialist.
